Cattle management increasingly demands technology, mainly to ensure greater productivity and reduce costs in the field. But a cell phone isn't a scale: what apps do is... estimate The weight, and that comes with a margin of error. This innovation is transforming the routine of livestock farmers throughout Brazil.

The most common method is... barimetryYou measure your chest circumference and body length with a tape measure, and the app applies a formula. Paid solutions use computer vision from a photo. In both cases, the number is an estimate. It does not replace a calibrated scale. not for sale or for calculating medication dosage.

Advantages of Applications

Practicality in the Field

You need a cell phone and a measuring tape. This avoids transporting animals to fixed scales, reduces stress, and saves time and labor on the farm.

Savings on Equipment

By using a free app, you save on electronic or mechanical scales, which are usually expensive to purchase and maintain. This makes the technology accessible even for small producers.

Animal Stress Reduction

The traditional weighing process can cause stress in animals, compromising productivity. With the app, cattle do not need to leave the pasture or corral, which ensures greater comfort and well-being.

Constant Monitoring

With its ease of use, it is possible to perform frequent weighings, monitoring weight changes continuously. This allows for faster and more efficient decisions in the nutritional management of the herd.

Artificial Intelligence Technology

Some paid apps use computer vision to estimate weight from an animal's image. The error varies depending on the angle of the photo, breed, and body condition score, and it remains an estimate.

Access to Reports and History

In addition to weighing, the apps usually offer comprehensive reports, animal history and data export. This improves zootechnical control and facilitates sales and supplementation planning.

Integration with Other Systems

Many apps can be integrated with agricultural management systems, allowing weight data to be used in other analyses, such as genetic performance or carcass yield.

Works Offline

In many rural areas, the internet signal is unstable. Therefore, several apps work even without an internet connection, ensuring that weighing can be done at any time.

Low Implementation Cost

Since the app is free and only uses your cell phone, you don't need to make a big investment to start using it. It's a simple and efficient solution to modernize your property.

Ease of Training

The application interface is usually intuitive, which makes it easy to learn even for those who are not very familiar with technology. With just a few clicks, anyone on the team can operate the system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the app weigh the animal?

No. It estimates weight from body measurements or a photo, and the result has a margin of error. It's useful for tracking weight gain and adjusting diet; for sales and medication dosages, use a calibrated scale.

Is additional equipment needed besides the cell phone?

In most cases you need a measuring tape to measure the animal's chest circumference and length. Apps that work with photos only require a smartphone with a camera and enough space to frame the animal.

Can I use the app even without internet?

Yes. Many of these apps work offline, which is ideal for rural areas with limited coverage. Data can be synced later when there is internet access.

Is there a limit to the number of animals I can register?

It depends on the app. Some free apps offer unlimited registration, while others impose limits or require you to upgrade to paid plans for large herds. Check the specifications when downloading.

Where can I download the app?
